Sealed beam headlamps: shit low beams, amazing highs. Seriously, every older vehicle I've been in that has these units has been the same way.

Definitely. I'm almost to the point of carrying a mag-lite in my Benz to see with around the neighborhood, but the highs? Mein Gott.

Throw on the highs in our '89 Wrangler and suddenly I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miiiiiles

That is why I would use JW Speaker or Truck-Lite LED replacements.
Truck-Lite: (less expensive, led reverse-aimed into the reflector)
The JW Speaker units: (more expensive, discreet projector optics, chrome or black housings)
This is new... JW Speaker even has Hella-style (Hella is a brand name, not an adjective...) 90mm modular units in LED, rather than Hella's halogen or HID.

Sealed beam H4 conversions are awesome
However, if you can't afford a good H4 conversion, then get GE Nighthawk, the only sealed beam worth buying (everything else is poorly made on worn-out tooling)

Agreed. Every time I throw the his on, I say BAM, much to the annoyance of my passengers.

I hate sealed beams. I own a 4th gen Firebird.
Added projectors w/ HID setup from a company that does the conversion. Greatly improved. I can actually see the road signs and read them now!

I had Hella e-Code headlights with Sylvania Silverstars in them. Looked stock, but worked great!

Those LED headlamps are nearly $1,200! That's as much as I paid for my old Supra.

Some of the expensive ones are...
But they'll never burn out*, use less energy with nearly the same brightness as HID, far better than halogen.
*-likely 50-100 thousand hours of use, likely to out-live several cars' useful lives.
You could take them out and re-sell them for a significant fraction of the initial cost.
The JWs being so expensive is what prompted me to look into the TruckLite units, though... they aren't cheap.
LED headlights as OEM options on new cars are likely even more than $1.2K

Yes, but you must remember anything using sealed-beams is either a work truck, or an old sports car with flip-ups.

Many restorable classics.
The transition on passenger cars happened between 1985 and ~1995 or so.
Mostly they are marketed toward service vehicles. Fire trucks, ambulances, and other service vehicles that still generally use standardized interchangeable parts, and aren't subject to a lot of styling emphasis.
